:: Mazmur 2013

The International Faculty of Syriac Music (Sruti, Haduta and SEERI, Kottayam) organized Mazmur – 2013 (Syriac Music Festival) on 28th February and 1st March 2013. The programmes consisted of:

(A). One-day Seminar on Syria Music (28th Feb. 2013)
(B). Maronite Musical Evening (28th Feb. 2013 evening)
(C). Mazmur-2013 - Syriac Music Festival. (1st March 2013 evening)

Syriac/Aramaic Music represents one of the ancient musical traditions in the world. St. Thomas the Apostle and the later Syriac fathers introduced this tradition in South India from the first century onwards. Later, the Syriac immigrants continued to nourish Syriac liturgy and music. And our Malpans of all the Syriac Churches in Kerala assured its faithful transmission up to this day.

It was in this perspective that we conducted the first Syriac Music Festival “Mazmur - 2011” on 20th February, 2011 as a joint venture of SEERI & SRUTI. The programmes of Mazmur 2013 were organized by: (i). Msgr. Dr. Jacob Vellian, (President, Haduta Society, Kottayam) (ii). Fr. Dr. M.P. George (Director, Sruti, Kottayam) and (iii). Fr. Dr. Jacob Thekeparampil (Director, SEERI, Kottayam). Knanaya Catholic Church Choir
